Alcacer Shines In Messi's 600th Game

Paco Alcacer-BolaEshosBlog

Paco Alcacer stole the limelight in Lionel Messi's 600th game for Barcelona as his two goals saw off Sevilla 2-1 at the Nou Camp.

La Liga leaders Barcelona were rewarded for a blistering start when Alcacer capitalised on an error from Sevilla captain Sergio Escudero after 23 minutes.

The visitors responded strongly in the second half and levelled through Guido Pizarro (59), but Alcacer turned home from Ivan Rakitic's cross just six minutes later.

Victory for Barcelona sees them restore their four-point gap at the top of La Liga.

Wydad Casablanca Win African Champions League

Wydad Casablanc-BolaEshosBlog

Wydad Casablanca of Morocco became African champions for a second time when they defeated Al Ahly of Egypt 1-0 on Saturday in the second leg of the African Champions League final.

Walid El Karty scored the only goal on 69 minutes to give the home team a 2-1 aggregate triumph after they forced a 1-1 draw in the Egyptian city of Alexandria last weekend.

Achraf Bencharki, who equalised in the first leg, set up the goal with a deflected cross for El Karty to score his third goal of the competition.

The victory bridged a 25-year gap for Wydad, who conquered Africa for the first time in 1992 when they defeated Al Hilal of Sudan.

Wydad pocketed a record $2.5 million and are guaranteed at least another $1 million by competing at the Fifa Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates during December.

Rea Beats World Superbike Points Record

Jonathan Rea-BolaEshosBlog

Triple world champion Jonathan Rea won Saturday's second race of the weekend in Qatar to break Colin Edwards' 15-year record for the number of points scored in a World Superbike season.

The Northern Irishman's 16th win of the season saw him end on 556 points, four better than Edwards' tally from 2002.

Rea finished ahead of Chaz Davies, with Alex Lowes third, to secure the 54th success of his World Superbike career.

Rea, 30, claimed a historic third title in a row at Magny-Cours in September.

The Kawasaki rider had won race one under floodlights on Friday to claim his first-ever triumph at the 3.63-mile Losail circuit, near Doha.

Rea's repeat win on Saturday leaves him just five behind the all-time record for the number of wins in the series, held by four-time champion Carl Fogarty.

Massa Announces F1 Retirement

Felipe Massa-BolaEshosBlog

Felipe Massa has confirmed he will retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season.

The Williams driver first retired a year ago only to return to the team when Valtteri Bottas left to join Mercedes following the shock retirement of F1 world champion Nico Rosberg.

But with Williams lining up replacements for the veteran for 2018, Massa's final F1 races will be his home race in Brazil next week and the season finale in Abu Dhabi on November 26.

Williams say they will announce Massa's replacement in "due course".
