If you missed the series I just started you can catch up HERE

This was where we started talking to each other and reading together. Along the line, I started having interest in Tope, so, I told Funmi about it. But Funmi’s response was so funny it made me blush. Funmi said, “Are you two okay? This was what Tope too was telling me yesterday that she likes you”.

Hmmm! I was happy to hear this because now I had the boldness to talk to her. I asked her out and she said yes and we started seeing each other.

On 8th of November, 2007, there was this MTN campus blast show at the School’s sport complex we were together and after the show I asked her, “If she would like to know my room?” And she said, “Yes! No problem”.

On getting to my room, we couldn’t talk much, so we kissed for like some minutes before she left for her place. The thing is I actually prefer kissing to any other way of showing romance.

We used to be three in my room but the two other room mates were medical students and they were mostly busy. I could remember there was a time we had to go for NUGA games but unfortunately we couldn’t leave Ibadan because the University approved it late so Tope had to sleep in my room since my other roommates had gone for their clinical at the University College Hospital (UCH).

This was how we slept with each other in my room and I must confess it was fun all the way.

The following week, the school authority announced the closure of the institution due to ASUU strike. We were asked to vacate the campus hostels to go to our various homes. At the time, Tope was based in Ibadan while I was based in Osogbo. School was closed down for like four months or so. It was during this strike that my baby, Tope, called to give me the shocking news that she was pregnant.

I responded, “Omg! How come? What happened? How did it happen? You shouldn’t have been so damn careless”. She kept mute and then, I asked her, “What are we going to do about it?” And she said, “She was also confused and I suggested maybe she should just get rid of it.

Gosh! We were both still schooling how on earth would we be able to juggle schooling and raising a child, I thought to myself. Tope was my heartbeat but then I wasn’t yet ready to be a baby daddy.

Then came another very shocking news, when she told me it was her Mum that even noticed the pregnancy and believe you me at that point, I was so down and helpless. The following day, her Mum called me over the phone and told me I should find time to see her, that she wants to discuss some issues with me. I was so afraid of what the turnout of our meeting might be that I ended up refusing  to go.

When we resumed school, I tried to see Tope and discuss with her since I refused to go see her Mum. Did I tell you I couldn’t tell anybody not even my friends nor siblings about the pregnancy saga? I was just so scared of what their reactions might be that I decided to keep quiet about it.

Until one day, when my elder sister told me someone called her and said she was an hotelier that she needed my sister’s help. My sister was a nurse while her husband was a banker and they stayed in the old Bodija Estate, Ibadan at the time. The woman insisted she would let her know what help she would render when she sees my sister.

When she told me about it, I thought it was probably one of her husband’s bank customers who needed help but would prefer to go through the wife. My sister said she told the person that she would find time for them to see but asked who gave her, her number and the woman said her former neighbor.

I had to follow my Sister to the hotel for security reasons and on getting to the hotel, you wouldn’t believe who I saw, Tope. She was coming from one side of the hotel and my Sister was already waiting at the hotel reception to see the woman. Seeing Tope was a shock because she was the least person I thought of seeing though I have been so silly by not really knowing much about her or her family background.

I never knew her Mum owned the hotel. She later moved closer to me and greeted me saying, "Hi" And I answered, “So, this is your plan? She said, “No! That it was her Mums since I refused to see her”. She further said, “I had to take a step to go to your Sister’s former house and her neighbor gave me your Sister's mobile number which Mum called to get through to your her.”

I said to myself, so I have been so stupid to have taken her to that house before. Later her Mum came and greeted us and wanted to entertain us. But I said, “No” since I was now aware the reason why we were there. Tope’s Mum told my Sister everything and as expected my Sister was very shocked. She looked at me and asked if it was true but I kept mute and couldn’t utter a word because what have been disturbing me is now leaked out in the open.

Mrs Falomo, Tope's Mum was so warm and calm about the whole situation when she was telling my Sister what transpired between me and Tope. There and then, my Sister never hesitated at all, and she accepted Tope’s pregnancy even without seeking for my own opinion, or allowing me to say a word, not even thinking maybe I had got something to say. My Sister gave them our house address in Osogbo, and we left there shortly after.

Some weeks later, I was at home in Osogbo when I heard the sound of some cars being parked outside our gate and someone asking our gate man if this was the William's place. Our gate man, Sule by name answered, “Yes ma”. I peeped through the window and to my utmost surprise; I saw Tope's Mum, Tope herself, and some other people that seemed like her relatives coming in. I was like, what in God’s name are these people doing here? This was one big annoying surprise.
