If you missed the series I just started, you can catch up on HERE and HERE
I’m this kind of guy that doesn’t really have many friends but I do have one I met in school, Dare by name. Dare was my very good friend and a very handsome dude that anytime we had a chance to drive around campus, Ladies would be staring at him but me I was just okay as a guy.
There was a time on campus that a lady almost embarrassed Dare for refusing to date her. Can you beat that? The lady had been sending him text messages and whatsapp messages but he hasn’t been so keen on her because he felt she was just not his type.
I even remember hooking him up with a friend of mine hoping he would one day prefer to settle down with her later after school but Dare later told me he wants to just sleep with the lady and nothing more serious than that.
Back at home in Osogbo, while I was trying to play music on my system, I heard the sound of some cars being parked outside our gate and someone asking our gate man if this was the William's place. Our gate man, Sule by name answered, “Yes ma”. I peeped through the window and to my utmost surprise; I saw Tope's Mum, Tope herself, and some other people that seemed like her relatives coming in. I was like, what in God’s name are these people doing here? This was one big annoying surprise, I muttered.
On entering our house, my Mum and one of her friends welcomed them, they came with a pastor. My Dad wasn't at home at that moment, so Mum had to call him. Hmmm! You can imagine how tensed and scared I was as at that moment.
I was so confused and devastated, with crazy thoughts coming to my mind, should I runaway? Should I deny it now? Well, I followed the proverbial saying which says; every man dies but once, I just had to face it once and for all. I called Dare to inform him about the visit of Tope and her family in our house and he said he would soon come over to our house since he was already was aware about it.
About 30minutes later, Dare came over and I heard the sound of Dad’s car being parked in the garage. I couldn't leave my bedroom, until they called me out with Dare. But before then, Mum's friend came to meet me in the room and asked me to tell her the whole truth before going out there and if I really wanted the pregnancy. I remember telling her, I couldn’t deny it, I’m so sure anybody reading this would understand I’m doing this all because of conscience.
I was called to the living room and low and behold, Dad went straight to the question. “Gbenro” And I responded, “Sir”. He then asked, “Do you know this lady?” I looked at Tope and said, “Dad, she is a friend”. He asked further, “what kind of friendship”? Then, I kept quiet.
He asked about the pregnancy, and I didn’t deny it. Dad told Tope’s family that they shouldn't be bothered about the whole thing that they have accepted Tope and I have gotten myself a wife. In his words in Yoruba, ‘Gbenro ti ni iyawo niyen” which means, “Gbenro now has a wife”. Dare was very supportive of my move to accept Tope’s pregnancy. It was settled amicably then few weeks later, my family and I also left for Ibadan to Tope's place in return of their visit to Osogbo.
On getting to their hotel, I still couldn't believe what was happening to me, until I realized they had turned it to a big party. They prepared all sorts of food, and then my sister's husband told me, “We're here for your introduction”. I was like, what the heck? Why wasn’t I told about this? I was so pissed; I had no one to vent my anger on.
