BEB Weekend Sports: News!

Bayern stage remarkable comeback against Dortmund

Robert Lewandowski's hat-trick outdid Erling Braut Haaland's early double as Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Dortmund in a Der Klassiker thriller.

Haaland drove Dortmund ahead from 20 yards after just 74 seconds and then turned home Thorgan Hazard's cut-back.

But Lewandowski steered in Leroy Sane's cross and levelled from the spot after Mahmoud Dahoud fouled Kingsley Coman.

Leon Goretzka drilled Bayern ahead late on before Lewandowski's third confirmed a return to the top of the Bundesliga.

Victory moved Hansi Flick's reigning champions two points clear of second-placed RB Leipzig, who had briefly climbed above them by winning at Freiburg earlier on Saturday.

Dortmund, meanwhile, drop a place to sixth, four points off the Champions League places, their woes compounded by a knock to Haaland that forced the Norway striker off in the second half.

Gerrard’s Rangers one point away from winning title

Rangers swept aside St Mirren to move within a point of the Scottish Premiership title - and will be crowned champions if Celtic fail to win at Dundee United on Sunday.

Alfredo Morelos' acute finish added to Ryan Kent's thumping strike as two goals in two minutes made the result a formality.

Ianis Hagi netted a minute after the break as Rangers - with manager Steven Gerrard serving a one-match ban in the stands - maintained their perfect home record with a 16th win.

Rangers players and some staff rushed to one corner of the stadium at full-time to acknowledge their fans, who had flouted coronavirus lockdown restrictions by gathering outside hours before kick-off.

Defeat dented St Mirren's top-six hopes but they have a two-point lead over St Johnstone and their fate in their own hands with one pre-split fixture left.

Blachowicz hands Adesanya first MMA career defeat

Poland's Jan Blachowicz produced a controlled, calculated performance to hand middleweight champion Israel Adesanya the first defeat of his MMA career.

Blachowicz and Adesanya traded shots through the first three rounds, with the faster, sharper Adesanya appearing to edge the action heading into the championship rounds.

But Blachowicz, 38, switched gears in rounds four and five and turned to his wrestling as he took the 31-year-old to the canvas midway through each of the final two rounds, and didn't let the Nigerian-born

Kiwi back to his feet as he dominated the action on the canvas.

After the bout went the distance, the three octagonside judges each scored the fight for the Pole, with
Blachowicz registering the first defence of his title with scores of 49-46, 49-45, 49-45.
"It was a tough fight, it was a close fight," Blachowicz said. "I'm happy I can be the first to beat him. He's one of the best in the world. I had to defend the division and I did it.

Portuguese Grand Prix confirmed on F1 calendar

Formula 1 has confirmed the Portuguese Grand Prix will go ahead on 2 May as the third race of the 2021 World Championship.

The sport said Portuguese authorities would decide whether spectators could attend in the coming weeks.

F1 is planning to hold its longest-ever season at 23 races this year. President Stefano Domenicali sai
"We are confident and excited about our 2021 season, having shown last year that we could deliver 17 races safely."
Portugal is on the UK's "red list" of countries that are a heightened risk in the pandemic because of the emergence of new coronavirus variants.

F1 personnel attending the race will not return to the UK within the 10-day restriction period from such countries.

All will travel on to the Spanish Grand Prix, which follows a week later. After that, some will go straight to Monaco, whose race is scheduled for 21 May, while others will remain in Spain until they have gone beyond 10 days since leaving Portugal before returning to the UK.

All F1 personnel are subject to regular testing as part of strict Covid protocols aimed at controlling the virus.
