1. Moisturising - Moisture is vital to natural hair because it can be dryness-prone if not managed properly. Add hair moisturiser to the hair at night and before going out in the morning. Try to do this at least three times a week.
2. Deep conditioning - This is a vital necessity to taking care of and securing strong natural hair. It is vital that you deep condition at least once every two weeks.
3. Natural oils, butter - Whether you use shea butter/ oil, mango butter, coconut, jojoba, or any other oil you find idea, be wary of those that are mixed with other chemicals. Check products and read contents carefully before applying.
Clean hair and scalp - Healthy hair starts at the root and scalp. To create a healthy environment for hair follicles and to grow healthy hair, keep scalp clean. Dirt leads to product build-up on the scalp and as a result, it becomes dry and itchy. Also, this can clog the pores in the head leading to no or low hair growth.
Minimise heat - A lot of women use heat regularly. This makes it easier to maintain the hair and also retain length. But watch the temperature on your heating tools and use them as little as possible.
Also, do a protein treatment before and after using heat along with a deep conditioner. This helps to add protein and moisture back into the hair, which can be taken out during the use of heat.
Proper detangling - Natural hair can be very difficult to detangle and could be completely unmanageable. Ensure you apply a good amount of conditioner to add slippage and making it easier for the comb or brush to slide through the strands. Use your fingers first, followed by a wide toothcomb and always section your hair when detangling.
Fitness - When you don't exercise and eat right, it shows up in bad skin, brittle nails, and weak hair. Also, drink a lot of water and exerciseregularly.
Clean scarf, hair net, pillowcases - Ensure you wash your hair nets , scarfs and pillowcases regularly. No matter how clean your hair is, once these are dirty they get in the way causing itching, smells and dandruff.
