It's a timeless trend which gives a flattering look. Stripes add flair and are easy to wear when rules are adhered to.
When wearing stripes consider the following;
1. Mind your size: The key to wearing stripes is knowing what areas of your body need to be highlighted. Do you want to conceal bulges? Seek the versions of this trend that make you look your best.
2. Know body type: If you have a boyish figure, go for horizontal stripes because they can add curves. Curvy and full- figured women can wear horizontal stripes provided they are not form- fitting.
A medium sized stripe in a dark colour and one- size up will keep the cut slightly loose rather than clingy. Women in this category can combine stripes and a single colour block, with the block hitting the area of your body you want to disguise. Petite frames look better with narrow stripes.
3. Know stripes that fit: To appear taller, choose skirts or pants with vertical stripes. To create the illusion of a bigger bust, choose a garment that has broad stripes across that area and narrower or diagonal stripes on the lower part of the body.
Bold wide stripes work better on loose- shaped pieces. Vertical club-style stripes will flatter almost any figure. If you are not sure whether stripes are for you, and then layer a plain cardigan or jacket over the top, to play-down their impact.
4. Mixing stripes: While it is allowed to mix stripes with stripes, mixing stripes with patterns is a fashion faux pas except in rare and exceptional cases. Darker hues create a more slimming look than lighter ones.
Here are some rules on striped dresses you should know;
I. Vertical stripes make things longer.
II. Horizontal stripes make things wider.
III. Wear just one print matched with a solid.
IV. Keep it simple.
V. The effect of stripes on the body is not always predictable, so, try it on before you buy.
