Osun Government Revives Old Cocoa Processing Company In Ede



The old moribund cocoa processing industry now Skyrun cocoa processing industry in Ede, state of Osun which has been abandoned for 15yrs has started operation again at a capacity four times higher than the original capacity.

Taking the Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, round the company, the Assistant General Manager of the partner company, Shanghai Golden Minkey Group, China, Ms Song Lin said the production capacity is now 20,000 tons per annum which was raised from the former 5,000 tons when they started with.
She revealed that the company is presently producing cocoa paste, adding that in no time, the organisation would commence the production of both cocoa powder and cake.

Ms Lin also affirmed that as soon as the company installs more facilities, the company would definitely jerk up its production capacity.

While acknowledging the management of the company for living up to the expectation, Governor Aregbesola expressed delight that a company that has been out of operation for the past fifteen years is now working perfectly.

He expressed satisfaction over the work so far. He said the state stands a chance of becoming a hub of cocoa production in the country.

He further said "From my projection, I want them to increase the strength of their production by consistently taking their production from liquid to power and cake"

"With this production, the name of our state will be on the map of the world as a centre of excellence in the processing of cocoa and other products.

"Though the maximum capacity of this plant when it was upgrade last in 2001 was 5, 000 tons but now it produces 20, 000 tons.

He expressed optimism that the revival of the cocoa company would support agricultural efforts and economic drive of government; as well as empower Osun cocoa farmers and merchants.

Governor Aregbesola who expressed satisfaction over the work so far said with an impressive increase on the production, the state stands a chance of turning into a hub of cocoa production in the country.

According to Aregbesola, "From my projection, I want them to increase the strength of their production by consistently taking their production from liquid to power and cake"

"With this production, the name of our state will be on the map of the world as a centre of excellence in the processing of cocoa and other products."

"Though the maximum capacity of this plant when it was upgrade last in 2001 was 5, 000 tons but now producing 20, 000 tons.

"We praise those who have made it possible especially for putting in their best to make it a reality.

"We are highly optimistic that this centre will support our agricultural efforts and economic drive to empower our cocoa farmers and merchants." The Governor noted.

Speaking on the modality of government and the chinese investors, the Chairman Board of Directors, Skyrun Cocoa Production Industry Ede, Chief Adewale Adeeyo said the state has invested a lot of energy and cerebral power into this company.

Chief Adeeyo who explained that cocoa suppliers have been regularly coming to the industry for proper cocoa processing activities added that state is looking forward towards establishing a robust economic activities, thus turning the state to food producing state.

"According to him, "we have done environmental impact on these facilities which has attracted investors for better productivity.

He said the centre will soon be the hub of cocoa exportation in the world just as the company has been exporting cocoa to China and Europe presently, adding that the company has been informed on the need to channel its capacity beyond the state.

Chief Adeeyo noted that the industry will be the eye point of influencing the state Internally Generated Revenue.

The partnership between the state government and the Chinese firm is a 70/30 percent arrangement with the Chinese firm taking the larger percentage.
