The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has said that it will deploy 2,134 workers to conduct the Saturday’s supplementary election in Southern Ijaw and three other local government areas in Bayelsa State.
While there would be a fresh election in the whole of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, the commission said that election would be conducted in 101 polling units in other three local governments.
The commission’s Deputy Director, Publicity, Mr. Nick Dazang, made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dazang said, “Election will hold in the whole of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state and 101 units in three other local governments.
“There are 425 polling units and five voting points in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, and we have four workers who will handle each of the polling units and the voting points.
“However, we are going to have monitors as well and also have technical teams who will intervene if there are problems with the Smart Card Reader.”Dazang assured the people of the state in particular and Nigerians in general that the commission was ready for the elections.
He said everything had been done in order to have a hitch-free election in the state.
On security, Dazang said officials of the commission had met with security agencies on December 15 last year, where he said strategies were mapped out on how to secure voters and materials on Election Day.
“I don’t have details of the number of personnel that would be involved in the election now, but I can assure you that we have met with heads of security agencies and they have given us the assurance of their ability to secure the place,” he added.
