Reading Culture: Nigerian Authors Advised To Modify Their Writing Skills

As part of the method to encourage and make reading an interesting activity for the youths of the present generation, the Nigerian Authors have been advised to modify their writing skills in a way that it will be less voluminous, easy to understand and to dwell more on historical and cultural events in Nigeria.

Secretary to the State Government of Osun, Prince Oluwole Oyebamiji gave the advice in his office while hosting the members of the Association of Nigeria Authors, state of Osun chapter who were on a courtesy visit.

According to Prince Oyebamiji, the jet age generations of youths are impatient on all aspect of life including reading , which therefore make it necessary for writers and authors  to also adjust in their writing and make reading more attractive to youths.

He noted that the less voluminous book that could be read and understood within two hours, would capture more minds of youth to reading than the voluminous books that would be abandoned in the course of reading

Prince Oyebamiji also opined that books on historical and cultural events will give youths sense of belonging and solve the problem of
moral decadence in our society.

Prince Oyebamiji maintained that immoral behaviours, indecent dresses and crimes are copied by the Nigerian youths from the western films and Books, which could be corrected by Nigerian Authors through their
writings

Earlier in his remark, the Chairman Association of Nigerian Authors, Mr. Awosemon Munriola disclosed that findings have shown that many of the books written by his members and many other Authors in Nigeria are unknown to a greater number of people, which is a sign of low reading habit.

He noted that his Association will continue to encourage people to read by inviting them to a reading session in order to inculcate reading culture in the youths.

Mr. Awosemon also hinted that a reading session for this month would hold on Sunday, 21st July, 2019 at the NUJ Hall, Osogbo by 2:00pm and urged all interested member of the public to attend.

Highlight of the meeting was the presentation of some books to the SSG.
