NDLEA Seizes 64 Tons Of Indian Hemp In Ondo State



Ondo State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized 64 tons of cannabis sativa otherwise known as Indian hemp.

The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Mohammed Sokoto who spoke at an Awareness Workshop on Psychotropic Substances said the illicit drug was seized between 2015 and date.
According to him, the drug was seized from drug traffickers and other individuals in different parts of the state. Sokoto who hinted that many of the drug offenders are already in prison custody also informed that some of them are currently going through trials in different courts within the state.

The NDLEA boss said the command was committed to the eradication of illicit drug trafficking in the state, noting that all the antics of the drug barons were being thwarted by the officers and men of the command.

He said, "Traffickers still devised ways to traffic these drugs but we are not relaxing in our effort to free the state from drug completely."

He also stated that the agency in collaboration with the state ministry of health would begin to seal the shops of medicine dealers who fail to obtain licenses to operate.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanjusaid there was need for medicine dealers in the state to cooperate with the state government in the discharge of their duties.
