Episode 2 - Fresher’s Night Party Saga

The fresher’s week was to round off with the fresher’s night party. So our departmental President informed us in a brief meeting held at one of our lecture rooms that there would be a fresher’s night party for all Jambities including the direct entry students that weekend.

Although, I didn't initially plan going in the first place, but for Akin, I changed my mind and headed straight to the bathroom to have a warm bath.

While in the shower, I started pondering on what Temi said about Akin. I felt would it not be wrong to one to come in between two friends who have come a long way.

In about an hour, I was done dressing up. I remember wearing a black flowing gown, channel ear rings, swatch wristwatch with my Italian shoes and was ready to go.

Our fresher’s night party was scheduled to start at 9pm. The venue was at the basement of the faculty of education. As I was about leaving for the party, Temi who had been sleeping all along woke up and asked where I was going to. I told her that, that night was our fresher’s night party and she asked,  “If she could follow me” and I was like “No problem”. I was so eager to leave the room and my heart was yearning to see no one but my darling Akin.

I guess you would be wondering why I was so much into Akin well, what actually attracted him to me the first time we met was his friendly looking disposition at the Law basement.

He dressed in a simple way unlike most guys who would dress to kill for entering their faculty for the first time. I can't forget how he looked that day. He wore a TM shirt and blue jeans with a Tomford raybans glasses and smelled really nicely.

Temi and I got to the venue by 10pm; the party kick started shortly after we arrived and our faculty executive members formally introduced themselves to us and asked us to do same. They enlightened us on a lot of things and encouraged us that we should strive to have good grades in all our courses.

While Temi was busy wining and dining with my colleagues, I checked the time and it was 11:00pm and Akin was still yet to show up, I kept asking myself what could be wrong? Why won’t he come to our fresher’s night party? Checked my time again and it was 11:30pm.

While we were seated I noticed a guy was staring at me and I didn't like it. I saw him with his friends when they were drinking, laughing and having a good time. But I didn't pay much attention to him because I was busy looking around for Akin.

Later that night, I still noticed he was still staring at me and when I couldn't see Akin, I set out to leave.
When I stood up, someone tapped me from behind and in my mind I was like who was that and I turned to see who it was and found that it was the guy that had been staring at me since.

He said, “I'm Sola and you? I just kept quiet and gave him “a mind your business” look. He then said, “I just noticed your mind was somewhere else. Hope no problem?” And I just replied I am fine thank you! Then I walked away.

The next morning, Temi asked why I didn't wait for her? I just said I didn't want to spoil her fun because I was too tired and needed to sleep.

I remember the SUG (Student Union Government) also organized their own fresher’s party for us few weeks after my faculty did theirs. They invited some music stars to perform like Styl-plus, Skuki, Olamide and some comedians cracked jokes like Seyi law, Basket mouth, Omo baba a.k.a fine boy and the official DJ for the night was DJ kenzo.

I had such a nice time I must say seeing some of our celebrities live and direct with just a token fee performing and making us enjoy ourselves. Temi could not help but admire Olamide's swag, she told me she liked the way he performed and his style of songs using Yoruba language to rap.

The next day was Sunday so my roommates and I planned attending The Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF) together since we were all Redeemed members from home except for Margret who attends Baptist Church and preferred going to Baptist Students Fellowship (BSF).

My roommates and I enjoyed the fellowship; I particularly loved the theme song we were thought. All the newbie’s were asked to stand up for recognition and we were prayed for by our fellowship President who introduced himself as Bro Funsho Lawal.

On Monday morning, my first class was scheduled for 11am so I left my room at 10:45am. As I was about entering the class, Akin and I saw each other and he said a casual good morning and went to seat. Gosh, I wondered why he couldn't really make out time to chat with me because it’s not like we had a quarrel for him to have just greeted me casually like that.

Immediately after the class my phone rang and it was my mum that called. She wanted to know how I was coping with registrations, classes and all. I told her I was doing pretty fine and all was well that there wasn't any course for worry that she should just be praying for me.

Since I wasn't yet done with my registrations I went to the Library to do my Library registration and was just waiting for my turn on the queue when I saw Sola walked in. He greeted me and asked why I left the party angrily like that and I said, “I was tired”. He now asked  “Why I was tired?” And I told him, “He asks too much questions” and he apologized that he was just trying to be nice and I said, “Alright”.

After we finished our Library registration, Sola then invited me to his friend’s birthday party and I told him I would try to make it.

When I got to the room, I told Temi that I would be going to a birthday party and she said,  “She would like to follow me” and I was like, “No qualms”.

When we got to the party, Sola introduced his friend doing the birthday to us and while we were having a good time Sola and I got talking and he told me his course of study was 'Geology'.

I must say he seemed like a jovial and friendly person with the way he was interacting with people at the party. Just then my heartbeat Akin walked in!
